What: Street named after Knut Hamsun
Where: Knut Hamsuns veg, 2830 Raufoss (Toten), Norway
Here it is: If you are driving north from Oslo, it is convinient to drive the road rv. 4 over Raufoss and Gjøvik towards Lillehammer instead of the usual E6. Today the rv. 4 goes around Raufoss, but just turn off towards the centre. When you are on Storgata turn off on Østvollvegen or Østbyvegen, both will cross Knut Hamsuns veg.
This is the longest Knut Hamsuns veg we have visited! This is also well deserved, since he was a road worker here himself. In 1880-1881 Knut Hamsun was employed at the road authorities during the construction of the roads rv. 4 and rv.33 - hard physical work, but even so he has the energy to write articles - again revivalists for example, and to participate in parties amongst the workers and in the surrounding villages, contemporary sources tell.
