What: Hamsun lounge
Where: M/S Nordlys, Hurtigruten
Here it is: The coastal express Hurtigruten serves, as you may know, the Norwegian coast from Bergen to Kirkenes and back. You have several possibilities: You can book the entire cruise roundtrip, you sail oneway and fly back, you travel from one harbour to another or - if you are already in Norway - you simply visit the ship in one of the 35 harbours along the coast. In some of the harbours you will have several hours to visit the ship, in other harbours the ship only stops for a short time.
Like on M/S Midnatsol you will also find a Hamsun lounge on this ship. It is situated foremost on deck 4 and is decorated with photos of Knut Hamsun and with art by his son Tore Hamsun and his grandchild Regine Hamsun. Several rooms onboard are named after names and places in Knut Hamsun's works: Sirilund, Rosa, Benoni. It was courageous of Hurtigruten to name a room after Knut Hamsun already in 1994, when he was even more controversial than he is today.
The ship was built in 1994 at the Volkswerft in Stralsund, Germany.
Photos will come when we have been onboard.
Many thanks to hotel manager Steinar Olsen for the tip.
